Chantal Marie & The Road Band
Chantal Marie and the Road Band’s latest CD release, “Roads, Paths, and Tales” on Pachanga Records traces the path of a musical journey that began in Quebec up through the Northwest Territories and back down to the Prairies, all the time gathering music and influences that produced the incredible CD.
Three of the songs composed by prolific singer/songwriter Rick Poltaruk (Northland, Raven’s Wing and Old Towner’s Story – A tribute to Gordon Lightfoot) reflect a way of life in the Yellowknife region and are a tribute to true Canadian roots.
Their music is a culmination of styles that include Folk-Rock, Country, Pop-Rock, Classics and “musique française”. Their music draws from influences that include Gordon Lightfoot, Chris de Burgh, CCR, Neil Young, Gaston Mandeville and others. Highlights include the Road Band’s rendition of the famous Gerry Rafferty song Baker Street, a true crowd pleaser.
This current release captures Chantal Marie at the top of her game with many years of experience. Chantal’s guitar playing and vocals play off each other in a relaxed but precise cadance.
The result is a comfortability in the feel and nuance complimented by the Road Band who added the layers and textures perfectly capturing the mood of each song.
Chantal Marie’s backup band “The Road Band” are seasoned professionals that perform with a passion and energy reflecting their collective years of performance.
Drummer/Percussionist and Music Director Jeff “JJ” Lisk (Boogie Patrol, Graham Guest, Texas Johnny Brown, Sonny Rhodes, Russell Jackson, etc.) has assembled a stellar group of some of the region’s best musicians.
All in all, a very diverse and upbeat show with a Canadian Roots theme.
